Mabua Pebble Beach – absence of sands; presence of stones

July 11, 2008 15 Comments

Mabua Pebble Beach was found in Mabua, Surigao City in the province of Surigao del Norte. Surigao City known as city of island adventures because of the presence of different islands and islets. But Mabua is not an island. Mabua is found along the coastlines of Surigao City’s mainland proper.

when we were in Mabua, all we have to do is SMILES…

For the first time when I set foot in Mabua Peeble Beach, I thought the place the same as when you were in Siargao and Boracay. But it is not. Sands are prohibited in the beach because natures by the way put the place into a magic circles of stones and not by sands. Wondering where the stones came from and became endemic in a place where beach usually ruled by sands and not by stones. Mabua Peeble Beach is a unique beach in Caraga as well as in the Philippines.

The Best Part And The Healthy Way

We stayed in Mt. Bagarabon Beach where stones piling up from one level to the next level maybe it were formed during the process of high tide and low tide. Sea waves form unique sounds when smashing with pebbles in the shoreline. It was sweet to your ears. The crystal clear blue water was tempting because stones clear the seashore unlike sands. You can climb the highest stone at the right side and take a glance of the world below. Different possibilities are coming in when you are in Mabua. The main thing you are closer to nature.

Looking at the stones were smooth and well-formed with different shapes but mostly oval. I tried to walk in the distance, and these stones were harmless enough when walking with your barefoot. It will give you some feelings of strength afterwards as you take back to the cottages. Intimate reflexes between your feet and the stones have the impact in your body. As we know that our feet has some reflex points that is connected to our internal organs (inviting those reflexologists to come and witness the best Mabua Peeble Beach reflex zones hehehe…). This is the way how we blend ourselves with natures.

Beautiful sunset and islands cross your eyes while relaxing in cottages that are built indigenously in a parallel setting. Horizon were so sweet especially lovers tend to be sweeter each day in this hidden paradise in the eastern part of Caraga. I remember my friend telling me that when it’s already 4:00 in the afternoon, they have to skip any routine activities from their class and jump to Mabua Pebble Beach to catch live – the beautiful sunset. It is one of the best at Mabua. Park yourself at the top of the stone hill, or just go at the mountain top and be a tough adventurer catching up how the sunset began to fade in the horizon. At this moment of our visit though clouds sneaking up the horizon, still you have to hurry-up catching the beautiful scenery of hidden sunset.

I used to take my time at the stone hill. There I refreshed myself for an hour. Taking glance of the world below you – the sea, the curve Mabua beach, peoples, islands and islets, sunset, fresh winds, and mountains…and what else. This is the world I live. Before I retire and going back to Butuan City all what is left is a memory of a hidden paradise that I treasured so much.

You can reach Surigao City for 2 hours from Butuan City by bus.

Caraga – a place of never-ending adventures

April 20, 2008 42 Comments

CARAGAcan be traced back to the 15th century when explorers discovered the existence of Kalagans, believed to be of Visayan Origin in one of the three districts in Mindanao. The word Caraga originated from the Visayan word “Kalagan”: “Kalag” meaning soul or people and “An” meaning land. The “Kalagans” have a long history of being brave and fearless. Thus, the region was called by early chroniclers as the “Land of the Brave and Fierce People.”

The “Kalagans”, called “Caragans” by the Spaniards occupied the district composed of the two provinces of Surigao, northern part of Davao Oriental and Eastern Misamis Oriental. The two Agusan Provinces were later organized under the administrative jurisdiction of Surigao and became the independent Agusan province in 1914. In 1960, Surigao was divided as Norte and Sur, and in June 1967, Agusan followed suit. While Butuan then was just a town of Agusan, the logging boom in 1950’s drew business and businessmen to the area. On August 2, 1950. by virtue of Republic Act 523, the City Charter of Butuan was approved.
CARAGA is an Administrative Region of the Philippines, on the northeastern portion of the island of Mindanao. It is the newest region in the Philippines, and is also called Region XIII. The Caraga Region was created through Republic Act Number 7901 on February 25, 1995. The region is composed of five (5) provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur, and the newly created province, Dinagat Islands (from Surigao del Norte); six (6) cities: Butuan, Surigao and Bislig, and recently, the newly created component cities: Cabadbaran, Bayugan, and Tandag; seventy (70) municipalities and 1,346 barangays. Butuan City is the regional center. It’s haven for tourists and adventurers. The region hosts two of the Philippines’ 10 National Integrated Protected Areas – the Siargao Seascape, and the 100,000-hectare Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary – as well as world class dive, surfing, and sport fishing sites, mountains trekking and biking, white sand beaches, hot and cold springs, caves, rivers, forests, and waterfalls. If you are seeking a challenging experience or simply an escapade from the humdrum of urban life, venture no more… Come and experience adventure one can find south of the Philippines islands that simply lures visitors to frolic in its pristine beauty.
